Tessellated Tiles

Tessellated floor tiles come in various shapes and colours which make a continuous pattern.

These tiles can have internal and external applications to Sydney verandahs, fireplaces and bathrooms on many period homes. Due to the nature of the tessellated patterns, they offer slip resistance and can be used in wet areas.

These tiles can add value and heritage effect to a home if laid the correct way.  Tessellated tiling is an art and only a handful of tilers can lay these tiles correctly.

Tessellated patterns and borders are supplied as loose pieces (not on sheets). This is done to ensure that the product, once laid, is authentic in appearance and aesthetically pleasing.

Tessellated designs need to be centred correctly, also ensuring that all boarders and fillers are symmetrical.

A detailed website illustrating tile patterns is:

Joint sizes between tile pieces can vary throughout a floor from 1mm to 3mm. This is to accommodate any size variation from tile to tile and allows the tiler to open and close up the joints to ensure patterns and borders work. Allowance for an infill tile to be placed on the outside edge of the border should always be provided. After centring the main pattern and border, the tiler cuts the infill tile to suit.

One of the hardest parts of repairing tessellated tiles is matching existing tiles, which cannot always be achieved.

Tiling is a finishing trade, and Hbuild has a highly skilled team to complete your Federation, Victorian, Heritage or traditional tiling designs.
